About Muteferriqa:

Muteferriqa consists of two main collections: Periodicals and Books.

Periodicals Collection: Approximately 1,500 titles, 160,000 issues, and 1 million pages
Books Collection: Nearly 35,000 books, comprising approximately 6 million pages
• Both full text and metadata can be searched in Arabic- and Latin-based alphabets. For example, users may search the keyword “heykel” using the English term “statue”, the Turkish term “heykel”, or the Ottoman Turkish spelling " هيكل "
• Images from both collections can be searched and viewed independently. Users may search images using visual descriptions or image category tags, and can also discover new images based on visual similarity.
• Support for Latin-script Turkish and English makes the rich corpus of Ottoman printed sources accessible to users who cannot read Ottoman script or who do not speak Turkish at all.
• Users can search and read content in their preferred language.

Search Features:

• Full-text search across millions of pages of Ottoman Turkish printed books and periodicals
• Advanced search combining bibliographic queries and full-text queries using Boolean operators
• Wildcard search, where special symbols can replace any character (e.g., to find words with suffixes)
• Fuzzy search allowing character mismatches (e.g., to find spelling variations of foreign names)
• Proximity search to locate multiple words within a specified distance, potentially within the same sentence or paragraph
